20 September 2007 - To cater to users who require high-performance optical drives that can enable high resolution movie playback and high capacity data backup, ASUS has released the next generation high-speed DVD rewriter – the ASUS BC-1205PT Blu-ray Drive. 7 September 2007 - Seagate announced a 1 terabyte (TB) desktop hard drive that uses government-grade encryption to prevent desktop PC information from falling into the wrong hands, as well as a new 250GB 2.5-inch notebook hard drive.Built with the same Seagate DriveTrust Technology that powers Momentus 5400 FDE.2 hard drives, the world's first notebook disc drive with built-in encryption. Momentus 5400.4 is expected to ship to system builders and original equipment manufacturers in the fourth quarter of calendar 2007, and Barracuda FDE is on track to ship in 2008.

15 January 2008 - SATA-IO today announced its Power Over eSATA initiative. SATA-IO has begun work on a new specification that will provide power to eSATA devices without the need for a separate power connection. Led by the organization’s Cable and Connector group, the specification is targeted for completion in the second half of 2008. The new SATA-IO specification will eliminate this requirement by providing power for a single drive directly from the host system using the Power Over eSATA cable.

7 September 2007 - Using second-generation perpendicular recording technology and available in capacities of 450GB, 300GB, and 147GB, the new Cheetah 15K.6 provides an unprecedented blend of storage capacity and performance. The Cheetah 15K.6 lowers idle and operational power requirements from its prior generation -- as much as 61% in watts/GB -- while increasing overall sustained data transfer rates by 28% at 164MB/sec. The Cheetah 15K.6 is scheduled to begin shipping worldwide in Q1 2008.

31 August 2007 - SanDisk today launched the SanDisk Multi Card ExpressCard(TM) Adapter, offering fast transfer speeds from memory cards to notebook computers without the need to carry cables or external card readers. The new adapter fits into the ExpressCard slot now found in most new notebook computers, and accepts six card formats: SD, SDHC, MMC, MMCplus, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO Duo and Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo. The SanDisk Multi Card ExpressCard Adapter is expected to available in North America and Europe in September, with a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $29.99 in the United States.

21 August 2007 - Toshiba today announced the launch of nine new 2.5-inch HDD that employ the company's latest advances in HDD technology. The new drives include the MK3252GSX, which achieves an industry-leading*1 capacity of 320GB, and the MK2049GSY, which improves performance with a 7,200rpm rotational speed. Toshiba will mass produce the drives in turn, starting from November.
