While we are away for Computex, CJ let us know that the Radeon HD 4870 X2 R700 prototype card is out and it beats the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 in 3DMark Vantage. The R700 card is basically made up of two RV770 GPUs with 2x256-bit memory interface to either GDDR3 or GDDR5 memories. We asked our sources about R700 in Computex and apparently AMD is going to let AIB partners to decide the specs themselves. Therefore, the partners will set their own clock speeds, PCB design, memory types, cooler solutions etc. and there will be Radeon HD 4850 X2 and 4870 X2 cards differentiate by the memory type. The R700 card apparently doing pretty well at this stage scoring about X5500 in 3DMark Vantage Extreme preset while the GeForce GTX 280 card is scoring X4800. Read More >>

cause for single card solution it is still better
not to mention the problem that HD4870X2 might have

anyway GPU is moving too fast for my taste when it is constantly bottlenecked by CPU -_-

ATM yeah....ATI will win that segment hands down...no argument with that. So everyone out there who wants to change GFX cards, pls go grab one HD4850 and do not buy the gtx280 so its price will drop....boycott the GTX280 untill it drops price

Even without official pricing, we already know the range that GTX 280 is going to cost us. At the moment, ATI looks set to win in terms of performance per dollar hands down.

They can always make 2x 8pins + 1x 6pins just to make up the extra power needed. Nothing is impossible. And please do not simply just quote the highest pricing of the card that is not even realeased officially.

How on earth is there gonna be a GX2 280? You would need 500watts power. Even if you would put 2 8pins plus the pcix wattage you would come up with 150+150+75=375 watts! Not enough!

Plus if you need 600 euros for the gtx 280 how much will you need for a gx2? Get real people!

X2 vs "X1" on GTX 280. cant imagine if there's a GX2 280.. 4870 X2 will be in shame
