Slashdot Not willing to splurge on a DSLR? No worries at all, Canon launched the Powershot G9 from the prosumer series. A new SX series was introduced as well, the Powershot SX 100 IS series with up to 10X Optical Zoom.

The Powershot SX100, as mentioned, is able to optically zoom up to 10X, with various consumer features such as Multiple Face Detection and various Creative Modes.

The Canon Powershot G9 is the highly anticipated sucessor of the G7 series. We saw an evolution in the Powershot G series of Cameras when Canon launched the G7 about a year back, with a reduction in size and retractable lens. At the same time, Canon also decided to remove the RAW Image recording function in the G7 that has present in the G series all this while. With the introduction of the G9 and essentially skipping the G8, Canon decided to reintroduce RAW Image Recording as well as an upgraded 12.1MP CCD Sensor with a similar form factor as the G7. Enthusiasts who found the Powershot G7 a disappointment finally have a chance to reliven the Canon Spirit!
